What’s New for 2025?
For the 2025 model year, Mercedes has introduced a series of updates to the GLS, refreshing its styling and enhancing its performance. The changes include a redesigned grille, a reworked front bumper, updated LED taillights, a new steering wheel, and fresh interior color options.
Notably, the GLS450’s six-cylinder powertrain has been upgraded to deliver 375 horsepower, while the V-8-powered GLS580 now boasts an impressive 510 horsepower.
Additionally, the GLS580 model is now available with an Off-Road Engineering package featuring underbody protection and an adjusted air suspension system capable of raising the SUV by an extra 1.2 inches, providing improved ground clearance.
These enhancements ensure that the 2025 Mercedes GLS offers a refreshed and more powerful driving experience, coupled with various design and performance upgrades.
How is 2025 Mercedes Gls Different From its Competitors?
The 2025 Mercedes GLS stands out with its luxurious comfort, advanced technology, safety features, eco-friendly options, and sleek design. It competes in the luxury SUV segment against rivals like the BMW X7 and Audi Q7.
2025 Mercedes GLS Release Date
It is anticipated to be introduced as a 2025 Mercedes GLS, with the possibility of hitting the market in 2025. We will update this article when the officially released date will be announced.
2025 Mercedes GLS Trims And Price
The estimated price for 2025 Mercedes GLS is $150,000. However, we will update this article when the official price will be announced.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The 2025 Mercedes GLS lineup consists of two models:
- GLS450 with a six-cylinder engine
- GLS580 features an eight-cylinder powerplant
Both models incorporate hybrid technology for enhanced efficiency and performance. The GLS450’s turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine has a refined and powerful character, with its horsepower output increasing from 362 to 375 for the 2025 model year.
On the other hand, the GLS580 boasts an impressive 510 horsepower generated by its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine.
In performance testing, a 2020 GLS450 managed a brisk 5.5-second acceleration from 0 to 60 mph and demonstrated impressive stopping power, coming to a halt from 70 mph in just 154 feet. Despite its size, the GLS-Class offers a surprisingly agile and manageable experience on twisty roads, though it doesn’t prioritize sportiness.
Every GLS model comes equipped with an air suspension system as standard, providing a comfortable and adaptive ride. Additionally, Mercedes offers the E-Active Body Control. This advanced system employs a forward-facing camera to scan the road for bumps and automatically adjusts the suspension to minimize the impact of road imperfections.
While this technology is impressive, it comes at a higher cost, and most buyers are likely to be satisfied with the performance of the standard suspension setup.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
When it comes to fuel efficiency, the EPA estimates for the GLS-Class may not be particularly impressive. The GLS450 is rated at 18 mpg in the city, 23 mpg on the highway, and 20 mpg combined. In contrast, the GLS580 fares slightly worse, with ratings of 16 mpg in the city, 21 mpg on the highway, and 18 mpg combined.
However, real-world testing revealed that the GLS450 exceeded its EPA rating, achieving 24 mpg during our 75-mph highway test. On the other hand, the GLS580 returned a less favorable 18 mpg in the same test.
If fuel economy is a primary concern for you, it’s worth considering that the BMW X7 offers a more fuel-efficient option in the luxury SUV segment. For instance, a six-cylinder X7 xDrive40i delivered an impressive 28 mpg during our highway test, making it a more fuel-efficient choice when compared to the GLS-Class models.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
- The interior of the 2025 Mercedes GLS-Class takes inspiration from the dashboard and cockpit layout of the recently introduced GLE-Class SUV.It results in a significantly more contemporary and modern design compared to its predecessor.
- This spacious SUV is capable of accommodating up to seven passengers. Still, for those seeking enhanced comfort and luxury, it can be configured with optional captain’s chairs, reducing the seating capacity to six.
- Passenger comfort and roominess are notable features of the GLS-Class, particularly in the first and second rows. The third row, while not as expansive as the second row, still offers sufficient space for an adult to sit without excessive discomfort.
- This sets the GLS apart from some competitors, such as the BMW X7, whose third-row seating is less accommodating for adult passengers.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The GLS-Class boasts an impressive infotainment and connectivity setup. Dominating the dashboard are two expansive 12.3-inch digital displays. One of these serves as a highly customizable gauge cluster for the driver. At the same time, the other takes on the role of handling infotainment tasks and runs on Mercedes-Benz’s advanced MBUX software, which includes an intelligent virtual assistant reminiscent of smartphone functionality.
Standard features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, in-dash navigation for seamless navigation experiences, and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot to keep you connected on the go. All GLS models come equipped with a 13-speaker Burmester Surround Sound stereo for exceptional audio quality.
For those looking for a more immersive audio experience, there’s an optional Burmester 3D audio system featuring an impressive 26-speaker arrangement, providing an unparalleled listening experience. This comprehensive infotainment and connectivity package ensures that you stay well-connected and entertained during your journeys.
